Honoring Your Health: A Business Leader’s Journey

As a CEO and a mother of nine, I understand the relentless demands of running a business while managing a household. In the midst of juggling responsibilities, I often overlooked one crucial aspect: my health. However, I have come to realize that prioritizing our well-being is essential not only for ourselves but also for the success of our businesses. As 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” This perspective has transformed how I view health in my professional life.

In the high-stakes world of business, it’s easy to become consumed by stress and pressure. Yet, Proverbs 12:25 teaches us, “Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.” Acknowledging stress and its impact on our physical and mental health is crucial for effective leadership. I learned this the hard way after facing alarming health issues, prompting me to seek wisdom from professionals who could guide me on my health journey.

In business, we often equate success with relentless work ethic, but Matthew 11:28-30 offers a different perspective: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Jesus invites us to lay down our burdens and find rest in Him, reminding us that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity for sustainable success.

As I implemented small changes in my daily routine—such as regular exercise, nutritious meals, and mindful practices—I began to see a remarkable difference not only in my health but also in my productivity and decision-making. Psalm 37:5 encourages us: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” By dedicating my health journey to God, I trust that He will empower me to lead effectively.

In the end, honoring our health as business leaders enables us to serve our teams and communities better. Let us embrace this responsibility, nurturing ourselves to fulfill our calling and make a positive impact in our workplaces.
